On the afternoon of October 11, 2023, the Opening Ceremony of“Chinese+TVET” Training Program for Team Leaders of Overseas Enterprises in Non-ferrous Metal Industry, the Beijing Belt and Road National Talent Cultivation Base Project was officially commenced by Beijing Polytechnic College in the conference hall on the 3rd floor of Jiangxin Building of the College. More than 60 overseas students from six China-invested enterprises, including Aluminum Corporation of China and China Nonferrous Metal Mining Group, are about to start a 21-day “Chinese+TVET” study journey, 38 of them attended the ceremony, and some of them will arrive in Beijing soon.Xie Chengjie, General Manager of the Non-ferrous Metal Industry Talent Center, Song Kai, Vice-general Managerof the Non-ferrous Metal Industry Talent Center, Zhao Lixia, Chief Division Head of Masses Working Division of the Party-masses Working Department of Aluminum Corporation of China, Assistant to General Manager of Non-ferrous Metal Industry Talent Center and General Manager of the Training Department, Liu Jiuqing, Vice-general Manager of Talent Training Department of the Non-ferrous Metal Industry Talent Center and other guests attended the opening ceremony. An Jiangying, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President, Zhou Yan, Member of the Standing Committee and Vice President of our College, deans of the secondary colleges and heads of relevant functional departments attended the ceremony. The opening ceremony was hosted by Zhou Yan, Vice President of our College.

An Jiangying, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President, addressed the ceremony and extended a warm welcome to the studentsfrom a great distance.President An Jiangyingpointed out that since the College was selected as one of the firstpilot institutions for “going global” of vocational educationin non-ferrous metal industry by the Ministry of Education in 2016, it has made various outstanding achievements in school running in Zambia together with China Nonferrous Metal Mining Group and a number of domestic vocational colleges, and started China’s first Sino-Zam vocational college that provides degree education in other countries. It has been selected as the Beijing Belt and Road national talent cultivation base, and has conducted five sessions of training programs in China for people of Zambia, Burma, Mongolia, Congo (Democratic Republic of the Congo) and other Belt and Road countries. The College vigorously carries out “Chinese+TVET” education and training, which adapts to the demands of the Belt and Road countries for high-level versatile talents, promotes economic mutual benefits and win-win results, enhances the cooperation, understanding and recognition among the Belt and Road countries in the fields of government, enterprises, colleges and universities, and promotes the people-to-people ties. Mr.An put forward high expectations for students, hoping that they will treasure the opportunity of study, succeed in study and will be able to apply what they have learned.

Xie Chengjie, General Manager of the Non-ferrous Metal Industry Talent Center, made a speech. He also extended warm congratulations on the successful opening of the training program and sincere thanks to the well-organized activity. He said that team is the most basic unit of organization in the production and operating activities and management work of enterprises. Team is the cell and source forstimulation of vitality of enterprises and also the basis of all work of the enterprise. This team leaders training program is amanagement ability enhancement activity that is carried out for front-line managers and technical backbones of overseas enterprises in the Belt and Road, aiming to build a platform for overseas employees to exchange ideas about work and strengthen friendship. To ensure the training effect and quality, General Manager Xie Chengjie set specific requirements for the training. He wished that all the students can make friends and progress and also wished a great success of the training program.

NyabiElazati, the student representative fromZambia ChambishiCopper Smelting Co., Ltd., talked about a saying of Zambia—“A child who has never travelled or moved will always believe that his mother is the best cook”, which means that a person must travel to and study at different places in order to learn from and apply what he has learned in such places so as to grow and improve himself. Before joining the company, I knew little about Chinese people only relying on hearsay, or from books and films. But after I was employed, I learned that Chinese people are hardworking, that they observe the occupational ethics, and that they advocate hard work, uphold loyalty, and value family ties. Thus, we have a better understanding of Chinese culture, making this trip to China for study a special one. I appreciate the training organized by Beijing Polytechnic College for it allows me to listen to the story of China, experience the charms of Chinese culture and excellence of China’s skills.

Alexis Gracias Delamo, student representative of Aluminum Corporation of China Guinea Co., Ltd., made a speech.He said that he will be in China in a few days to join the training. We are happy to be able to attend the training which is designed to enhance our team management ability, and to teach us how to apply these abilities in the performance of ourduties. The production team leaders training will greatly promote the business management.

In order to ensure the smooth going on of this training program, the College has conducted meticulous design and careful arrangement in the preliminary stage. It has fully communicated with the Nonferrous Talent Center and enterprises subordinate to the Nonferrous Group on the scheduling,curriculum contents and teaching forms so as to fully understand the talent training requirements. It held the training mobilization and coordinationmeeting with secondary colleges to repeatedly discuss the training curriculum outline and contents. Based on teaching of Chinese language and culture, featuring vocational education and focusing on improvement of the training quality, seven thematic courses on Chinese culture, including Chinese Lunar Calendar and Traditional Culture, A Brief History of Chinese Culture, etc. and five vocational skills courses including Card of Great Power: China High-speed Railway and Identification and Appreciation of Minerals and Gemstones, were finally determined. It also planned to organize dumplings making and table tennis competition and many other experiencing programs such as visiting the Center for Language Education and Cooperation and the headquarters of China Nonferrous Metal Mining Group.

The Belt and Road Initiative is an important strategic conception put forward byGeneral Secretary Xi Jinping in the context of deepening reform, aiming to strengthen internationalcooperation, promote interconnection and establish a bond for development. The year 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative and is also a key node for co-construction of the Belt and Road. Over the years, Beijing Polytechnic College has actively taken this opportunity brought by the co-construction of the Belt and Road, based on its own advantages in school running, deepenedthe international cooperation in the Belt and Road vocational education, and constantly improved its international school-running level. This training is also a concrete action and practicein response to the Belt and RoadInitiative. Through study in Beijing Polytechnic College, students willsystematicallylearn Chinese traditional culture and the spirit of modern civilization to have a deeper understanding of China, which will help strengthen and enhance the friendship and cooperation among the Belt and Road countries.
