School Profile

Beijing Polytechnic College is located in Shijingshan District, Beijing. It is a general higher vocational college sponsored by the Beijing Municipal Government. It is one of the first batch of independent higher vocational colleges, national model higher vocational college, and the presidium college of National Association of Higher Vocational College Principals. The predecessor of BPC was the Beijing Coal Industry School, which was founded in 1956 and was affiliated to the Ministry of Coal Industry. It began to hold higher vocational education in 1994 and was officially restructured into a vocational technical college in 1999. The school now has 7 teaching schools (departments), continuing education college, and international education college. There are 5 professional groups, covering 8 major categories with 27 majors, facing the fields of urban construction, operation, management, and service, and having formed a unique professional system focusing on engineering majors with coordinated development of engineering, management, literature, and law.

In 2000, BPC was identified by the Ministry of Education as one of the first batch of national demonstration vocational and technical college construction units. In 2002, it was identified as model college with national financial key support for construction. In 2003, it was identified as one of the eight excellent colleges in the first batch evaluation of national vocational college talent cultivation. In 2007, it became one of the 100 “national model higher vocational colleges” priorly supported by the country. In 2015, it became one of the first three colleges for pilot of Beijing high-end technical talents through training projects. It was identified by the Ministry of Education in the first batch of pilot project schools for vocational education "Going Global" in 2016. In 2019, it became the construction unit of Beijing’s “high-level vocational colleges with special characteristics”, and was selected as the construction unit of higher vocational college with Chinese special characteristics. It has successively won the titles of top 50 national universities for employment, top 50 for teaching management, and top 50 for teaching resources, and the title of top 50 influential vocational colleges in the Asia-Pacific region. BPC's results in the "double competition" of national vocational college teaching ability and student skills are well-known nationwide. BPC's main school-running indicators and comprehensive school-running strength are in the forefront of fellow colleges in China, and it is one of the most influential vocational colleges in the country.
